Many would say there are three certainties in life; death, taxes and Watford appointing a manager throughout the season. Another day comes and next on the list to take on the job at Vicarage Road is the former Crystal Palace and Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson.
The 74 year old takes the helm from this morning and will be in charge until the end of the season. It is very clear as to why Hodgson has been appointed and that's to keep Watford in the Premier League.
It comes as Watford sacked their 2nd manager this season, Claudio Ranieri on Monday after the club’s 3-0 home defeat to relegation rivals Norwich City on Friday night.
Speaking on Sky Sports on Friday Night Football, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher both said they expected Ranieri to be sacked and a replacement to be found before the end of the international break.
Ranieri spoke from his car as he was leaving the training ground for the final time on Monday in which he wished Watford and everyone involved with the club all the best for the future.
Watford return to action in the Premier League on 5 February when they travel to fellow relegation rivals Burnley in a game that you would expect to be a must win. Prior to Friday, Watford were in 17th but after Norwich and Newcastle both picking up points they found themselves just 2 points off bottom of the table Burnley.
So will Roy Hodgson be able to keep Watford from their 3rd relegation in their last 3 seasons in the Premier League? If he achieves the average points per game ratio that he achieved at Crystal Palace, Watford should get 36 points by the end of 38 games which you would expect should be enough for the club to retain their membership within the league.
Hodgson will attend his first press conference as Watford boss on Friday 4 February when he will be talking prior to the Burnley game.
Whether Hodgson will be successful or not at Vicarage Road is a tale that will most definitely be an intriguing one to focus on throughout the remainder of the season.
