TIERNEY SOARS SCOTS TO WORLD CUP

Kieran Tierney's incredible late winner against Denmark, secured an automatic spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup for Scotland.

After a back and forth fight. at Hampden Park, the Celtic man's wonderful left footed effort swept past club teammate Kasper Schmeichel in the Danish goal to seal a 3rd lead of the night for the Scot's and one they were not giving up.

The result means that Scotland finish atop of Group C and an automatic spot at the World Cup next summer with Denmark having to fight for a place through the playoffs.

To make the dream even better for the Scots, it will be their first appearance on the World Cup stage since 1998 and a 9th overall appearance in the World Cup Finals.

The defeat means that Denmark join 15 other teams fighting for the final 4 European spots at the World Cup by competing in a knockout style playoff stage. The other teams include the 11 other group runners-up and 4 teams that have qualified through their Nations League ranking.

Teams such as the Republic of Ireland, Italy, Wales and the Czech Republic are all involved in the competition with only 4 being rewarded with a spot in the World Cup.

The draw for the second stage of the qualifying campaign takes place on Thursday in which the teams will find out who they will face in attempting to qualify for the World Cup.

Elsewhere, Wales secured their spot in the playoffs by sealing up 2nd spot after a 7-1 win over North Macedonia in Cardiff.

Little however, will compare to the elation felt at Hampden Park tonight with Scotland's fairytale ending to the qualifying campaign completed
