REDS BOOK PLACE IN FINAL AS JOTA SCORES TWO

A night to remember in North London for fans of the ‘Mighty Reds’ as they booked their place in this season's League Cup Final.

Jurgen Klopp’s men looking re energised and ready to put up a fight for that spot in the Wembley final at the end of February.

Two goals from the star signing of last season Diogo Jota, who has been renamed by Liverpool fans as ‘Diogoal Jota’ and ‘Diogo Slotta’. The Portuguese now has 14 goals in 27 appearances this season.

Arsenal once again ended the game with 10 men after Thomas Partey was shown two yellow cards within 3 minutes. The midfielder only returned to England at 12pm on matchday after returning from AFCON.

It means Arsenal have received 14 red cards since Mikel Arteta’s appointment in December 2019, 6 more than any other team.

Despite the red card, Liverpool were much the better side in the game and took their chances when they came. In contrast Arsenal looked limp and tired with most of their starting eleven not trained prior to the game.

Two sensational bits of attacking play from Liverpool and two wonderfully taken attempts from Jota.

Liverpool’s first came after just 19 minutes when Trent Alexander-Arnold played it to Jota who left Tomiyasu on the floor and proceeded to wrong-foot both the centre-back Ben White and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. A passage of play filled with great quality and skill, topped off by a cool finish.

The visitor’s second and decisive goal came in the 77th minute when once again their top creator Trent Alexander-Arnold played a sensational pass in behind the Arsenal defence to Jota who chested Ben White out of the game before dinking the ball over Ramsdale and into the net.

VAR did get involved with the assistant flagging for offside but Darren England at Stockley Park saw nothing wrong with it and Liverpool celebrated their decisive and crucial second goal twice.

So all in all a professional and controlled performance from the Reds who will face Chelsea in the League Cup Final on Sunday 27 February at Wembley.

It will be Liverpool’s first League Cup in 6 years and they will look to bring the trophy back to Anfield and add it to the collection of 8 previous league cups which the club have won, making it a record number of wins.

On top of that Liverpool will make a record-breaking 13th League Cup final appearance with their last win coming in 2012 when Kenny Dalglish’s side won on penalties against Cardiff City. Only 1 current player was present on that day and that was current Captain Jordan Henderson.

So undoubtedly an exciting final in store and it will most definitely be a day to remember for whoever lifts that trophy in front of 40,000 or more of their fans.
