MESSI TEARFULLY BIDS FAREWELL TO BARCELONA

It's a day that football fans worldwide will never forget. The day that one of the world's best ever footballers says goodbye to his club of over two decades.

A man who has won everything in football with a club that he loves and a player that will go down in not only Barcelona’s history but in football history.

In his tear-jerking final press conference in Barcelona, he explained that Barcelona “is his home” and that “I never imagined having to say goodbye.” The six-time Ballon d’Or winner continued by confirming that “they (Barcelona) couldn’t do it because of La Liga”.

Earlier this week it was confirmed that both Barcelona and Leo Messi had come to an agreement on a new contract but the new deal was rejected by La Liga due to financial rules that the league imposed to cap club spending.

Messi started at Barcelona in 2000 at the age of 13 before emerging in the first team just 4 years later. It sparked an unrivalled 17 year spell of incredible record beating football.

The Argentine made 778 appearances and scoring 672 goals since 2004. In that time he won 10 La Liga titles, 7 Copa del Rey titles, 4 Champions Leagues, 3 UEFA Super Cup titles and 3 FIFA Club World Cup titles.

It would be a massive understatement to say that Messi has been a monumental figure at one of the world’s biggest clubs. He has made an immense impact in both Spanish and world football.

His time has now come to an end at Barcelona but the memories and the good times will always be remembered.
