MANCHESTER UNITED v LIVERPOOL MATCH PREVIEW

It is the biggest game in the English football calendar, bitter rivals Manchester United and Liverpool face off at Old Trafford for the second time this season tonight.

Despite the protests outside the stadium two weeks ago the Premier League were determined to get their most attractive game played before the season wraps up in 10 days time.

This game may have a lot more meaning in terms of placements in the league for Liverpool but it is guaranteed that it doesn’t mean any less to the fans about the importance of beating your biggest rivals.

Liverpool come into this game with a good unbeaten run in the league and after beating Southampton 2-0 at Anfield on Saturday night, Liverpool will be ready and raring to go against the Red Devils tonight.

In his press conference yesterday Jurgen Klopp confirmed that there are no new injuries but also no new additions to the list for this game. On loan centre-back Ozan Kabak picked up a minor muscle injury prior to their last league game and Klopp reiterated that he would not be ready for tonight’s game.

In terms of who Liverpool do have compared to January, when they lasted face Manchester United, Diogo Jota has returned and he will certainly look to add to the already fierce attacking talent that Liverpool possess at the top of the pitch.

Manchester United come into this game just two days after losing to Leicester and four days on from coming back to beat Aston Villa 3-1 on Sunday. It looks like Manchester United are set to play a very strong side against the Reds after making 10 changes for the Leicester game.

In terms of injuries, its not just Liverpool who have concerns at the back, Harry Maguire suffered an injury at Villa Park on Sunday and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has established that he won’t play in the league for the rest of the season but are looking to get Maguire fit enough to play in the Europa League Final in Poland just 3 days after the Premier League final day on May 26.

Other than Maguire, Manchester United have a lot of rested players to look to start tonight with Bruno Fernandes only playing 15 minutes on Tuesday and Edinson Cavani also only playing 30 minutes. Arguably Manchester United’s two best players this season will be ready for battle against the Merseyside Reds.

The last time Manchester United won against Liverpool in the Premier League was March 2018 with the Red Devils winless in the last 5, home and away.

Liverpool have a good run against Manchester United, scoring 6 and conceding 2 in the last 5 league games against United and are unbeaten in those 5 games also.

So what can we expect from a game that has been rescheduled and stuck in the middle of the week? We have to find out.
