Is Southgate the right man for England? Nations League Reaction

A question that many England fans will be pondering over their breakfast this morning. Is Gareth Southgate the right man to bring success to England?

The answer is still up in the air but fans will be asking themselves why this Nations League campaign has gone so badly wrong so far, considering the fact that last summer England were in the Euros Final!

Questions are now starting to be asked whether Southgate is the right man to lead England into the World Cup in November, and give the fans what they so desperately want, a trophy!

England were thrashed by Hungary 4-0 at Molineux in last night’s 4th game of the new Nations League campaign. Goals from Daniel Gazdag, Zsolt Nagy, and a brace from Roland Sallai capped an emphatic victory for the visitors.

It means England have now gone 4 games without a win, picking up just 2 points from those 4 games, including 2 defeats from Hungary, both home and away. England now sit bottom of the group with both Italy and Germany 3 and 4 points ahead of them respectively.

In the other game in Group A3, Germany beat European champions Italy 5-2 in Monchengladbach with Timo Werner earning a brace and Muller and Kimmich also making it onto the scoresheet.

The Netherlands beat Wales 3-2 after a late winner from Memphis Depay winning it for the hosts in the 93rd minute.

Scotland got 3 points against 9-man Armenia in Yerevan. Scottish forward Stuart Armstrong received Man of the Match after scoring 2 goals and assisting in a 3rd.

Also in this group, Stephen Kenny’s Ireland got a 1-1 draw against Ukraine in Poland. Centre-back Nathan Collins opened the scoring for the visitors before Artem Dovbyk equalized early in the second half.

The Nations League campaign continues in September, with two more matchdays before the groups are decided prior to the Finals later next season.
