FOOTBALL PAYS TRIBUTE TO ARTHUR LABINJO-HUGHES

During the weekend, football fans paused the support for their teams in the sixth minute to pay tribute to Arthur Labinjo-Hughes who was murdered by his father and his stepmother in June 2020.

The 6 year old Birmingham City fan was remembered with a minute’s applause in the 6th minute of every game across England including Birmingham’s game against Millwall.

Accompanying the applause were messages such as ‘Arthur, you are loved’ and ‘We love you, Arthur’ which are in response to the heartbreaking audio clips of Arthur crying and screaming “no one loves me”.

Football fans also made their voices heard on social media with many sharing their love for Arthur and their not so kind words for the 6 year old’s murderer, Emma Tustin.

It comes as Miss Tustin was sentenced to life with a minimum of 29 years and Arthur’s father, Thomas Hughes, for 21 years with both guilty of various child cruelty offences.

Along with the tributes from the footballing world, many of the local community in Solihull visited the former home of Tustin, where Arthur was fatally injured, to pay their respects and lay wreaths and flowers in tribute.

Crime and policing minister Kit Malthouse says that authorities owe it up to Arthur Labinjo-Hughes and all children to review events leading up to his death.

Education minister Nadhim Zahawi is due to make a statement in the Commons this afternoon (Monday 6th December) on the case.

RIP Arthur Labinjo Hughes
