Is it possible for the seemingly impossible to happen? Can someone other than Manchester City have hopes of lifting the Premier League trophy this year?

Firstly, you must look at how dominant and in control of the title race Man City are no matter the circumstances over the last few years. They have had significant leads over the likes of Liverpool on a few occasions, and others where they are the chasers to Liverpool or Arsenal, and on almost all of those occasions City have went on to the lift the Premier League title.

So, if someone was to attempt to challenge Man City for the title this season, is it possible for them to conquer the Cityzens and hail the Premier League crown?

Well, this last 10 days has proven quite a lot about the Premier League this season. And that is the fact that no team is unstoppable or unbeatable. Tottenham found that out the hard way with back-to-back defeats in Matchday 11 and 12 having gone 10 games unbeaten prior to that.

It is usually around this time in the season that this conversation of an emerging title race starts to appear and people often speak about who can overcome Man City. Well, in my opinion there are only 2 realistic alternatives to Man City winning the Premier League.

They are Arsenal and Liverpool.

The reason I say that they are the only two contenders is because of their previous battles with Manchester City in the past. Arsenal are the most recent of challengers to Man City’s title haul, chasing them down for the vast majority of last season with the Gunner’s falling away in the last 10 games of last season.

However, Liverpool are a contender that not many people are actually thinking can topple Man City are lead a title challenge this season. Considering the fact that no one could’ve foresaw the start that Jurgen Klopp’s new team have had to the season, Liverpool so far have kind of gone under the radar in terms of a title challenge.

They certainly have the bones for a title challenging team with world class players in key positions such as Alisson, Van Dijk, Salah and Alexander-Arnold. These are the main spine of the Liverpool team who have had title challenges with Manchester City on several occasions, winning one title against City in 2019/20 with that clutch of players.

That combined with significant new talent such as Szoboszlai, MacAllister and Gravenberch in midfield that seem to be working like a well-oiled and slick machine. Include the depth of quality in positions and vast amounts of youth in various positions and with different qualities.

All these factors combined with one of the best managers the Premier League has seen, could surely see Liverpool challenge Man City. However, despite all those positives there are still many questions that remain and the infancy of this new Liverpool team means that the players are not as fluid or free-flowing and instinctive as Man City’s players meaning that when a challenge such as Luton shows up Man City could deal better than Liverpool already have with team that completely understands each other inside out.

Personally, I hope we see another Man City/Liverpool, Guardiola/Klopp title race because it created some much drama, excitement, and unforgettable moments for both teams over the few years they locked horns.

The sense of perfection needed from both teams, so they don’t lose ground on each other and the relentless mentality and work ethic that both showed was one of the most glorious things to watch.

A neutrals point of view, I’m sure, would agree with mine, and as a Liverpool fan it would be a massive achievement for the club and players to conquer considering how new a team this is and how early in the regeneration of this team we currently are.

So, can someone stop Man City from winning a 4th consecutive Premier League title? The short answer is Yes, but it is very much a test of time and considering that the first game after the international break is Man City v Liverpool at the Etihad and Liverpool just 1 point behind Man City in the table, it is already set to be a cracking affair in Manchester.
